Paul Redfern is a certified public accountant specializing in management accounting and financial leadership. As the chief financial officer of 211 San Diego/The Community Information Exchange/San Diego Health Connect, Paul Redfern oversees the stewardship of the combined business’s $35 million budget through financial and contract oversight and sound business management. Paul is a member of executive management team that sets strategy that helps lead the organization and oversees the finance and accounting and disaster response services.

With the finance and accounting department, he helps creates financial feasibility plans, operational plans, and budgets. Further responsibilities include implementing and maintaining internal controls. He is responsible for financial oversight and compliance with applicable laws and is responsible for successful results of annual independent audits. Paul is also responsible for aligning the many diverse departments within the agency with combined business strategies and fundraising ensuring successful financial stewardship of the organization. He meets and assists other departments on goal creation, budgets and employee relations items that align with the execution of those strategies. As a key leader in the organization, Paul presents regularly to board of directors, finance committee, local media and community stakeholders.

Paul joined 211 San Diego as a consultant in 2010 through his entrepreneurial accounting firm, Redfern & Company. Leveraging his work with startups, he provided counsel to the expanding organization in many areas of business and funding growth. From 2018 through 2020, Paul led the phone center operations in addition to his financial oversight. Today, Paul leads a team that manages the organizations’ complex budgets, business operations, contracts, and disaster response while working with the President & CEO and executive team to ensure that the organization’s infrastructure needs are being met.

Paul serves as an audit committee for the San Diego Regional Economic Development Foundation. He served as board member for the Community Resource Center, the Magdalena Ecke Family YMCA and as an audit committee member at the Boys and Girls Clubs of San Dieguito. Paul was recognized as the Small Nonprofit CFO of the Year by the San Diego Business Journal for his work at 2-1-1 San Diego. He graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, received his Award in Accounting from University California, Los Angeles. Prior to joining 211 San Diego, he founded an accounting firm that specializes in working with nonprofits. Paul lives in Leucadia with his wife and their five kids.
