Present at the CIE Virtual Summit!
211/CIE San Diego and Health Leads invite you to propose a session for the CIE Virtual Summit 2023.
Submissions are welcome starting February 15, 2023. Please submit your proposal using the online form linked below by 11:59 pm (Pacific) on Wednesday, March 15, 2023.
We are pleased to provide discounted registration to all invited Summit speakers.
The Call for Proposals will open on February 15, 2023.
All submissions are due via our online submission form by 11:59 pm (Pacific) on Wednesday, March 15, 2023.
Key Dates
February 15, 2023: Call for Proposals opens.
March 15, 2023: Call for Proposals closes. All submissions must be received by no later than 11:59 pm (Pacific).
March-April 2023: Submissions under review.
April 2023: 211/CIE San Diego staff communicates decisions to the submission point of contact. Accepted proposals will receive session design recommendations as needed.
April-May 2023: Presenters finalize session descriptions and speaker information via the Whova platform.
May 2023: Presenters participate in tech runs and refine their sessions with support from 211/CIE San Diego and Health Leads staff.
June 7-8, 2023: The CIE Summit takes place virtually.

Background
The 2023 CIE Virtual Summit theme, “Community Care Coordination Models in Action,” celebrates the equity-driven, innovative approaches, and lessons learned from building, implementing and running community-led care coordination efforts. Communities across the country have transformed traditional resource referral models into community-led care coordination models, creating ecosystems that help to proactively address individual and community needs, as well as identify systemic barriers. This work requires critical discussions, an equity mindset, and intentional planning. We will all benefit and support each other by sharing our journeys, including our breakthroughs, failures, and everything in between.
During the 2023 CIE Virtual Summit, attendees will come together to celebrate, share and learn innovative approaches, strategies, lessons learned, and models that can be readily applied in communities planning or actively implementing a community-led care coordination effort. Over the course of two days, attendees will participate in 60-minute breakout sessions spread across four Summit tracks.
Summit Tracks
The following sections define each Summit track and provide potential submission topics for each. Please note the list of potential topics is not exhaustive and we encourage you to submit additional ideas for consideration.
211s and United Ways serve a unique role in facilitating care coordination. Sessions in this track will examine the benefits of engaging or building on existing local 211s and United Ways in multisector data sharing initiatives. Presentations will reflect on direct practice and approaches to supporting community infrastructure as well as use cases for leveraging 211 data.
Potential topics could include:
Leveraging 211 Resource Directory and Closed Loop Referrals;
Using 211 data to support community care coordination;
Direct practice and approaches to supporting community care infrastructure; or
Defining roles for a local 211 or United Way within CIE.
Multiple essential components contribute to the technical infrastructure of community-led care coordination models, ranging from data integration from various sources to systems interoperability and data-informed systems change interventions. Sessions in this track will explore current models and highlight what is possible with respect to data integration and technical platform functionality.
Potential topics could include:
Utilizing a human-centered design approach for guiding technological infrastructure;
Articulating technical and design needs for platform and search customization;
RFP considerations for designing and building a CIE;
Leveraging insights from data analysis for systems change;
Data sharing approaches around informed, ethical consent and identity management; and
Security of information and role-based permissions.
Shared governance refers to the inclusive and collaborative input and guidance of policies, processes and decision-making that guide an institution. Sessions in this track will focus on topics such as successful shared governance models, strategies for multi-stakeholder engagement, backbone organizational structures and sustainability models. Presenters will also reflect on how to work towards a truly equitable shared governance model.
Potential topics could include:
Strategies for multi-stakeholder engagement;
Backbone organizational structures and sustainability models;
Executing a shared governance model; and
Vision and considerations for operationalizing sustainability and funding.
Coordination and collaboration among community members and the sectors that serve them (healthcare, social services, government, for-profit, etc.) is key to ensuring more equitable access, often facilitated through technology. But how can communities make that happen? These sessions will provide “how to” guides and examples for building trust in the community, defining use cases, onboarding network partners, developing and utilizing success measures, and more.
Potential topics could include:
Partner engagement and onboarding workflows
Affinity and cohort use cases
Approaches for measuring successful stakeholder engagement
Building trust
Defining use cases
Approaches to stakeholder buy-in and organizational investment
Aligning initiatives to address collective needs and measuring outcomes
Proposal Submission Instructions
We invite community-led care coordination initiatives to submit a proposal for consideration for the 2023 CIE Virtual Summit. Proposals should address an innovative approach, strategy, lesson learned, or model that can be readily shared with communities planning or actively implementing a community-led care coordination effort. We strongly encourage proposals to include diverse perspectives and incorporate community voice.
In your submission application you will be requested to provide the following information:
Working title for your session
Name, title organization, and email address for all presenter(s)
200-word description of session
Three to five learning objectives
Brief description of intended audience
Brief description of session requirements or pre-reading
You are strongly encouraged to review the application available in the Submission Instructions PDF and draft your responses in advance before completing the online submission form.
Review Criteria
Summit organizers will consider the following components when reviewing submissions:
Focused Session Topic and Goals: The topic and intended learning objectives for the audience are clearly written, well thought out, and relevant to the CIE Summit and selected track theme.
Diverse Speaker Perspectives: The proposed session includes up to four speakers that can provide unique perspectives on the session topic. The proposal includes subject matter experts from historically underrepresented groups across racial/ethnic, sexual orientation, gender, religious, socioeconomic, and/or geographic lines.
Practical Application: The proposed session describes lessons learned of a tested strategy or approach and offers audience members insight into how to adapt the strategy for their local efforts and/or bigger considerations regarding impact on the practice of community-led care coordination.
*Note: We welcome stories of what worked, what didn’t work, and, for discussion and consideration, what needs to change from a systems and policy perspective. Consider the following questions:
What was helpful about your strategy or approach?
What aspects made your strategy or approach difficult to plan or implement?
How have you measured/seen success?
What are big challenges/barriers that remain?
Moving forward, what are key recommendations to work towards policy or systems change that would benefit underserved populations?
Relevance: Overall relevance to the CIE Summit audience and chosen track. Please note, proposals that focus on selling a product, software, or professional service will not be selected.
The CIE Virtual Summit organizers reserve the right to edit session formats as needed to accommodate the Summit agenda. Sessions will take place at various points in the agenda from Wednesday, June 7, 2023 through Thursday, June 8, 2023.
Note: The CIE Virtual Summit 2023 will be hosted on the Whova platform. All speakers must complete a full profile complete with a headshot and short bio in the Whova app by the deadline specified by the event organizers. Failure to provide all required information may result in the cancellation of your session.
